About Frankincense
Frankincense is an aromatic oleo resin obtained from the sap of various frankincense trees. There are a variety of species that grow throughout Arabia, Africa, and India. Frankincense has been used as incense, perfume, and also medicinally for thousands of years. It was used to embalm in Egypt and in funerary rites in Roman Britain. Frankincense was also burned to honor the dead in Ancient Rome.
Frankincense is used in both Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and in many local other folk remedies throughout Africa and the Middle East.
Frankincense is part of the Burseraceae family, a few of its relatives therefore being myrrh, palo santo, opoponax, and copal.
